Frequently Asked Questions
How will I move my course from WebCT to the Blackboard Learning System?
Staff in the LTRC are working with the company to devise an easy transition process. Instructors and support staff will receive consultation and associated training to help plan and move their current WebCT courses to the new system. More information on the phased migration and training will be posted here when available.
How long will it take to fully implement the new system?
WebCT 4.1 is based on technology developed in the early 1990's. The new generation of Learning Management Systems are more complex both in its hardware requirements as well as software configuration and set up. First, the LTRC needs to obtain the required hardware (servers, storage, load balancers, etc.). Next, a test environment will be set up to ensure that the system can service a University-wide implementation. After that, the production environment is configured before faculty can be trained. At present, we anticipate this to happen by the end of summer (progress will be updated at this site regularly). Initially, the number courses migrated to the new system will remain small as the system is fine-tuned and training and support services are developed. After that, the movement of approximately 1300 courses will take at least a year to complete. More concrete timelines will be posted as the implementation progresses.
What will happen to LearnLink?
The implementation of a new LMS has no immediate effect on LearnLink. LearnLink services will continue as usual.
