Administrative Accounts Wiki services are offered to members of the McMaster academic community. Access is based on the UTS “Access to UTS Systems Policy”; thus faculty, teaching assistants, students (graduate and undergraduate), and other affiliates such as research associates will have access to the wiki services. All faculty, staff, and teaching assistants are eligible to have a wiki account. Faculty members who request a wiki are automatically given an administrative account. The administrators and support staff of the wiki will have privileges to provide any necessary technical support. Service Period This new service is the result of a pilot program started in 2006 which involved a number of instructors from both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses. With the pilot project complete, the service is now open to all instructors on campus. Continuation of this service will be reviewed annually. Computer Use Code of Conduct McMaster University's Code of Conduct for Computer and Network Users applies to all wiki users. Backups/Restore A very powerful revision control feature is inherent to virtually all wiki software packages. Whenever a page is edited, a copy of the previous version of the page is saved. By looking at the “revisions” tab of a particular wiki page, you can see how that page looked at any previous point in time. This allows the user to restore any previous version in the event of accidental changes, defacement, etc. You can also compare any two revisions of a page to see what changes have been made. Just as with wikipedia, you can also obtain a “permanent link” to a particular version of a wiki page so passing along that URL will allow others to see the page as you saw it (instead of just seeing the current revision). From the server administration perspective the LTRC keeps a 7-day backup rotation of the wikis for disaster recovery purposes. System Archives These will be performed nightly and are intended for disaster recovery situations only. Disk Space Currently there are no limitations on the use of disk space for materials posted in the wikis; however, disk usage within the wikis will be reviewed periodically to determine if quotas are necessary. Use of Copyright Material The unauthorized use of copyright text, images, etc. is not legally acceptable. For more information, please see the LTRC Copyright and Use Policy and FAQ about Copyright in the Classroom System Upgrades The server will be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week but is attended from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Upgrades to the operating system and wiki software are done periodically throughout the year depending on the availability of product upgrades from the vendor. Any LTRC down times are scheduled outside of normal working hours and as much advance warning as feasible is given. All administrators will receive announcements via emails and a notice will be broadcasted to the wiki.
